You only get one chance to make a first impression, which is why it’s important to look your best. Whether you’re attending a job interview, business meeting, or just running errands around town, you should put forth the effort to create a stylish and attractive appearance. Here are some essential tips to help.
#1) Avoid Graphic T-Shirts
I’m not sure who started this trend, but it’s time for it to go. With the exception of a few high-end shirts, graphic t-shirts are typically a poor choice of fashion. They offer little-to-no aesthetic value, while often featuring cheesy phrases or words.
#2) High-Quality Undershirts
You should, however, invest in high-quality undershirts. I know what you’re probably thinking: what’s the purpose of a high-quality undershirt if no one ever sees it? Well, people will see your undershirt, even if you never remove your outer layer. Some of the fabric will remain visible, which can either help or hurt your appearance depending on its quality. Stay away from cheap undershirts and instead spend the extra money on high-quality undershirts.
#3) Color Coordinate Socks with Pants
Whether you’re wearing jeans, khakis, chinos or suit trousers, it’s a good idea to color coordinate your socks with your pants. If your pants are black, you should wear black socks. If your pants are brown, you should wear brown socks — you get the idea. Some men assume that white socks are perfect for all occasions, but this isn’t necessarily true. Wearing white socks with black pants creates a serious eye-sore that does your appearance no justice.
#4) Dress in Layers
You really can’t go wrong with a layered look for several reasons. As the temperatures become warmer, you may find yourself getting hot as the day progresses. If you wear layers, you can strip off your outer layer for greater comfort. Furthermore, wearing layers allows you to create a deeper and more dynamic appearance with multiple colors.
#5) Press Your Clothes
Try to get into the habit of pressing your clothes with a hot steam iron before heading out the door. Even if a garment looks wrinkle-free, it probably has some small creases somewhere in the fabric. These creases can enlarge as you wear the garment, turning it into a wrinkled mess.
#6) White and Blue Shirts
Men’s dress shirts are available in nearly every color under the sun. However, there are two colors in particular that are highly versatile: white and blue. You can wear these colors for either casual or formal occasions, and they are easy to blend with other “accent” colors in an outfit.
